UWFDM-951 Assessment of First Wall Lifetime in D-3He and D-T Reactors with Impact on Reactor Availability

چکیده

The neutron yield in a D-He reactor is much lower than that in a D-T reactor of equivalent power. Therefore, the rate of neutron damage and gas production in the first wall of D-He reactors is lower by more than an order of magnitude. Whereas different structural materials proposed for use in commercial fusion reactors will last the reactor lifetime of 30 full power years in a D-He reactor, frequent replacement of the first wall and blanket will be required during the lifetime of a D-T power reactor. The blanket modules may require 30 replacements depending on the material used and the maximum allowable damage level. The down time required for replacement of the first wall and blanket in a D-T reactor will impact the reactor availability and consequently the cost of electricity. It appears that a D-He reactor should have a 10% advantage in availability over a D-T reactor.

UWFDM-829 The Impact of Proton-Induced Activation on the Level of Radioactivity in D-3He Fusion Reactors

Experimental radionuclide production cross sections have been collected for protons with energy similar to those protons produced in a D-3He fusion reactor. Proton energy-dependent cross sections (Ep < 14.7 MeV) were used along with the proton stopping data of Anderson and Ziegler to produce a proton-induced thick-target radionuclide activation yields library. In its present form, the library c...

Economic Analysis of Advanced Fuel Fusion Reactors and Derivation of Scaling Law for COE∗)

Social acceptance of fusion reactors depends largely on their economic viability. To investigate this issue, we estimate and compare the cost of electricity (COE) among D-T, D-3He, and D-D fusion reactors. Three types of confinement systems are evaluated: the tokamak reactor (TR), the spherical tokamak reactor (STR), and helical reactor (HR). For each reactor type, COE parameter surveys are per...

Impact of plasma, magnet and wall performances on tokamak and helical reactor economics

For the assessment of both tokamak and helical reactors, the base case reactor models are introduced, and parameter scan analyses on plasma beta, electric power output, maximum magnetic field strength and neutron wall loading are carried out. The assessment shows that high temperature operation is appropriate in tokamak reactors to increase bootstrap current fraction and current-drive (CD) effi...

Slaughterhouse wastewater treatment by combined anaerobic baffled reactor and anaerobic filter: study of OLR and HRT optimization in ABR/AF reactors

Background: Slaughterhouse wastewater (SWW) is hardly treated due to the large amount of organic matter, nutrients and suspended solids. These materials are naturally decomposed through biological processes, and then environmental pollution, transmission of pathogens and problems become smelled. Conventional purification methods require high investment costs, high energy consumption and expert ...

UWFDM-1176 Impact of Tritium Removal and He-3 Recycling on Structure Damage Parameters in a D-D Fusion System

Removing tritium produced by D-D fusion and recycling part of it after it decays to He-3 significantly reduces the fraction of fusion energy carried by neutrons in a D-D system. For a catalyzed D-D system (no tritium removal), the peak dpa rate in candidate structural materials is 25-35% lower than that in an equivalent D-T system with the same fusion power wall loading. The gas production and ...
